Next up the ATM, stopped briefly when it spit out my card and said "insufficient funds". Doh! Tried again and got some cash, apparently our bank has a limit on how many euros one can take out per day. Good to know, especially since most of Holland has switched to "chip and pin" instead of swiping credit cards. Found that out at dinner the night before when we had to scramble to pay the bill.
So, cash in hand, we stopped at the toy store to hope for a miracle. We searched the racks and found..one book 'Film Stars' in Dutch. P decided she didn't care - the addiction to stick is strong in that one- and she would use the book to teach herself how to learn to read Dutch. O picked out a dolphin puppet aptly named 'Dolphie'.
Back to the hotel lobby where we negotiated how many times they could go through the revolving door. Three was the magic number and the kids and I set up camp to wait for the Noni. Right on time she came in and checked in quickly dropped her stuff and out we went for lunch.
The girls were desperate for cheese toasties, so we went back to Dom square for lunch. Tried 'bitter lemon' a schwepps brand lemon drink that was delicious. As it says a bit bitter and barely sweet. Lunch had and crusts eaten, we headed out to the Miff museum. Girls loved it, there was a room full of little kid toys they fell on and played for a good hour. We tried to interpret the Miffy titles, there was one with a tomb stone (swear to goodness). Heard from Arja it's about her grandmother dying.
Then over to the Utrecht Museum. We came in and attempted to store our bags in a locker when the girls spotted a mannequin art piece. Freaked them out. Both thought it was a dead body. From that point it was game over, get them out of there.
We returned to the hotel to swim for an hour (Noni took them to the pool) then out to the Greek sandwich place for spinach and filo. Dennis came in late and we all passed out.
More tomorrow, pancake cruise and Arja!
Fun times! :)
