Columbia road market ..

Jenny bailed on us this morning, so Mom and I hopped on the bus to the tube, then the tube.. headed up to 'the seedier' side of London looking for the Sunday Flower Market. 1/2 mile walk later ..

Beautiful flowers, plants, shrubs and tucked behind were all sorts of fun shops to peek in.

LOVED the sign on this one..hehehehe

Mom bought a bracelet and we hit the cupcake store, they looked so much better than they tasted. They had to have been sitting for at least a day. But the girls didn't care.

$10 for 9 mini cupcakes.. Welcome to London.

Continued to wander the streets, saw some great flea market and second hand shops.

Chairs with maps.. There was a matching table too. I tried to get mom to carry it home for me, she declined.

Gnomes..

And of course street musicians

Really a neat little place. Would be fun if it were a neighborhood breakfast excursion place, but not sure if it's tourist worthy. But enough off the beaten path and fun to explore. And the people watching was, fabulous.

I deliberately cut off her head. She was spillin' out all over the place. Pretty sure she wasn't a 'working girl'.

The fashion here is interesting. Dennis and I have had a conversation about how the women keep their short short skirts from riding up and exposing 'their lady bits' - Dennis' theory -butt sweat. I'm hoping they're wearing cheer leading pants or something. I have no desire to find out.

Bread shop. Cheese were in a non-refrigerated case, Mr. Jeske wouldn't have approved.

Mom and I had lunch at a local sandwich shop and sat on the curb to people watch and listen to the street musicians. I had a ginger beer. Quite like drinking a bitter ginger snap that made you want to scrape your tongue. Mom had a lime crush- tasted like lime juice that had a 1/4 tsp sugar added to it.

On the way home spotted some graffiti. Loved it. Banksy? I hope you can see the details of the $ signs she's cut out.

We bused to the rail then made our way home.

Returned to find Dennis had installed new iPad games for the girls..all loud. Cruised down to the pub for dinner.

Chicken, mashed parsnips, broccoli, carrots all swimming in gravy. Some sort of pastry on top, that's point- I'm pretty sure- was to hold -More gravy. Washed it down with Guiness. Had a "Sweet Home Alabama" moment when 'there was a BABY in a bar". I have to say though, what a good idea for new Moms.

But I can't say much as both mine have been there twice.

O having pizza in a pub.

We haven't made plans for tomorrow. Dennis goes back to work and we'll be running amok again.

Love,
Sarah

  1. Uh Dennis should remind the people that he is AMERICAN and will be needing July 4th off, as is customary. I'm sure they will not have a problem.

  3. Borough Market? Have you been? Can be combined with the GOLDEN HIND, Sir Francis Drake's ship (California history connection), Southwark Cathedral (mainly interesting because of the Harvard chapel), and the HMS Belfast (if you are interested in being on a navy ship).

Tube stop is London Bridge. You could go to Borough early and graze the market for breakfast , or swing by for lunch on the go. The market is open-air, but much is shaded.
