John and V had been up since three and hopped a bus to Isleworth. John is now a master of Google Maps. The knocked on the door at 8:30 and with the tv on and the rest of us moving slow, we got out of the house at 10 ish.
Perhaps it was a mistake to crack them up on nutella bread before we left the house?
At the pace of sloth we headed out, pretty sure a turtle or two passed us. Hopped a bus to John and Nora's hotel to pick up Nora and the teens. Happy and Happier greeted us with warm welcoming smiles, great big hugs.. who am I kidding? A couple grunts hello and we were out the door. They are so cute when they're sullen.
Made it to the train station in time to wait 40 minutes until the next train. We passed around the iPhone angry birds and did our best to amuse each other. Waterloo to the Northern line off at Goodge street. Have I mentioned I love the names? Sure they look easy to pronounce like "chiswick" Chez-wick you think? Nope Chess-ick. It's drives you nuts but thank goodness for the LED screens for those of us who are "English impaired" but didn't realize it.
Popped into Marks & Spencer picked up lunch for the girls- past mistakes noted - baguette and cheese purchased, chips and HOLY MOLE Belgian chocolate milk. I had a sip (maybe 2) of P's it was like drinking chocolate ganache. Crack-tastic.
We ate lunch on the portico of the museum huddled out of the rain. Next to an Italian contingent of students, one who kept hacking up huge amounts of phlegm (if Noni gets sick you'll know why). John could not get in the door fast enough. V looked like he was about to crash -coffee high only takes you so far little man. He sat outside with Noni while his family zipped through. John did come back to get him so he didnt miss the mummies. Dennis, the girls and I headed to the library to pick up the kids pack. Out of the six options (decisions decisions!) we decided to explore the Nile and mummies. It was great. Each page of the girls booklet had great information about Egypt and the various Pharos. How they were mummified, the various sarcophagus -and who knew that a scarab was buried over the heart so it couldn't narc you out at the pearly gates (note to self: pick up a couple of scarabs).
The girls loved the booklets, we were done in about an hour or two and Johns boys were still pretty jet lagged so we headed off back to the tube. I've promised the girls we'll come back and do more of the adventures. Total score on the educational front.
Took the train to Richmond as our Isleworth one wasn't due for an hour. Bad public transport karma today. But caught the bus back in record time. John and crew camped out at our house. Each of the under 10's had an iPad and one teen disappeared to surf the web. We channel surfed to find the Women's World cup, but it doesn't look like we'll be seeing it live. Bummer.
J & N peeled out around 7, hopefully the boys will sleep well. We're off to Stonehenge and Bath 8:30am tomorrow. Should be a grand adventure. I'm going to try to add a couple of pictures to yesterday's blog post. Wish me luck..
Cheers,
Sarah
